There are many aviation functions that on the outside seem like they may not contribute academically to your training but I think are a fun addition to it. This week is Fleet Week http://fleetweek.us/fleetweek last week there was an airshow at Salinas http://www.salinasairshow.com/. WVFC often has safety seminars and open houses where you can meet other pilots and see new aircraft. There are many local clubs too that go on fly-outs. The list is endless and includes the FAA and their many safety seminarshttp://www.faasafety.gov/SPANS/default.aspx (sign up on their website for notices) and of course my favorite AOPA.
I always learn something at these type of things and it refreshes my love of flying.
And now I can go with my family to enjoy the beautiful California weather and see some planes!
